Let’s be honest, this is not much of a shocker. Except for (what seems to be) Miami Blue. That’s cool.
The 718 Cayman uses a 2.5 liter flat four that produces 300 hp, while the Cayman S uses the same engine, but produces 350 hp. 0-60 for the Cayman is 4.7 seconds with the PDK and Sport Chrono package, and the Cayman S does the same deed in 4.2 seconds.

Is there a configurator live?

So far, not yet. Only the 718 Boxster is available on the configurator.

Normally I’d get a Boxster before any other Porsche, but this thing makes a good case for itself.

I want to like these so bad but the styling just doesn't excite me. Still a good looking car though.

Hmm... I guess I thought for some reason the Cayman would have a different three digit code. I honestly thought it would be the 356 Cayman or 904 Cayman

Usually it comes live the day after the reveal.
BmanUltima's car still hasn't been fixed yet, he'll get on it tomorrow, honest.

Pretty sure 356 and 904 are already taken.

I think the 718s are becoming better looking than the 911.2. It’s been close for years, but I think one more redesign and the little brothers will be the head turners.

I don't care for the front end of either this or the 718 Boxster. I likely won't be ordering one. Ill stick to my 987.1 for the time being.

Agreed. New Porsches in general just look off.

718 is supposed to be their 4 cylinder line of cars.
Although 904 would be a great name.

For some reason the 718 hasn’t grown on me.

So was 718. The 718 was an open top 4 cylinder race car, the 356 and 904 are hard tops.

The 718 S equipped with PDK and Sport Chrono returns the same 0-60 as a comparably equipped Carrera. The mid-engined chassis arguably is the better car to drive through the curves. It is so subjective, though. It will be interesting to see Purists feel about this; I have already seen them scoffing. I will be ready to replace by 991.1 in three years and right now I can’t confidently say it will be with another 911.
We have seen Porsche separating the models all along until now. Personally, I find the minor overlap to be fine but many of my colleagues are Porsche Purists and were scoffing about how the entry-level Porsches are going to be just as fast as the “real” Porsche. None of them would be caught dead in a “base” Carerra, but the notion still scares them.

After reading the press release, I see that they have unified the Boxster and Cayman under the 718 moniker. I thought they were going to keep them seperate like before (hence why the Cayman used to always have more power).
This new organization does make more sense overall

For me, certain redesigns make it obvious that one more refresh will make them a hit. The 718s and the Mustang are designs I can tell will be nearly perfected on the refresh. Designs like the new Camaro or C-Class are pretty much as good as they’ll get for their generations. Thats just to my eyes though, but whenever I’m “meh” it tells me the model is just missing some touches (which usually pop up on the top performance models, a la GT350).

I’m amazed at how big the 911 has become, and it’s that reason that I like the Cayman more. It’s smaller. The 911 is huge.

The exterior is the bee’s knees. Also, the door panel in that interior shot. Is it weird that I strangely REALLY REALLY like it?

That makes the Cayman S .2 seconds slower to 60 than the Booster. Boo.
